The Victorian Government has launched a tender process to source renewable energy certificates from new solar and wind projects in Victoria, which it says will bring forward around $200 million of new investment in renewables.
Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio made the announcement at the breaking of ground for a new 75 turbine wind farm at Ararat on 27 November.
The purchase of the LGCs, equivalent to about 100 MW of wind or 170 MW of solar, is part of the government’s Renewable Energy Roadmap. Under the program, the government will use its electricity purchasing power to buy Large Scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) from new Victorian renewable energy projects.
Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio, said: “We are determined to use our purchasing power as a large electricity consumer to boost investment in renewables and create new jobs for Victorians.”
“The renewable energy certificate tender process announced today is expected to attract competitive proposals for renewable energy projects worth around $200 million and create about 1,000 jobs.” Most of the projects are expected to be based in regional Victoria.
Companies interested in joining the initiative have until Friday, 11 December 2015 to register, and tenders will open in January 2016. Information on how to register, and details of an industry information forum on 11 December 2015, can be found here.
