The South Australian Government has released a call for tenders to provide solar panels for 400 housing trust homes across Adelaide.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Stephen Mullighan said the project delivers on an election commitment to create a pilot program to install solar panels on 200 of our public housing stock.

“Recently the program was doubled to include a further 200 properties in the CBD, meaning up to 400 properties will now be part of the scheme,” said Mr Mullighan.

Solar suppliers and installers interested in the tender can register at the SA Tenders and Contracts website.

The tender will close on 29 April with works scheduled to start in July.

The program is being funded through the $65 million public housing package announced in the 2015/16 South Australian State Budget.

“This project will provide savings on residents’ annual energy bills of at least $150 each year while also giving a valuable boost to South Australian solar suppliers and installers, and supporting jobs for South Australians.”

South Australian Climate Change Minister Ian Hunter said the project was an important contribution towards making Adelaide the world’s first carbon neutral city, adding that an assessment of suitable properties is already underway in the Adelaide City Council district.
