A petition calling on the Australian Federal Government and all state premiers to make solar panels mandatory on new houses is gaining quite a bit of attention.
“It’s not rocket science. More solar panels sitting on houses means less reliance on fossil-fuels in Australia. Are we committed to lowering carbon emissions or not?,” says David Corbett, who started the petition.
As solar power systems combine with energy storage in a move to maintain it’s rapid uptake, distributed storage for solar will be an $8 billion market in the next decade.
In order to overcome drawbacks such as having no power when there’s no sunlight and intermittency, solar-plus-storage is crucial.
If a deal is made to sell the electricity, a $100 million solar power station could be under construction this year in North Queensland’s Collinsville.
Independent power producer Ratch Australia has plans to construct the station on a coal power station they bought in 2011 that is no longer used.
Solar Citizens urges the Palaszczuk Government to reject a return to Newman-era attacks on solar and reaffirm its commitment to solar power in Queensland, following the release today of a draft report by the state’s Productivity Commission.
