Labor revealed in April 2018 a plan to partner with land developers and home builders in a $2.18 million project to supply zero net carbon homes in growth (high-demand) areas of Melbourne, defined as: areas in the north, west and south east or in the Geelong and Mitchell regional areas.

The Melbourne Quarter development that started in 2016, managed by property developers Landlease recently won financial backing from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation. Their project for a huge development in Melbourne’s CBD is underway with the first stage of the project is due to be completed in 2018.

As a tenant or resident of an apartment building you might assume that a solar energy system to supply your home is out of your reach, either because you don’t own the property, you don’t have direct access to the roof or (if you’re a landlord) you might assume the investment in a solar energy system won’t provide return on investment if you don’t live in the property.

2017 was a record breaking year for solar installations across Australia. In 2017 more than 1057 megawatts was installed and it’s expected to surpass that in 2018.
