The Victorian Government has launched a tender process to source renewable energy certificates from new solar and wind projects in Victoria, which it says will bring forward around $200 million of new investment in renewables.
A City of Melbourne-led initiative will see some of the city’s best known businesses and organisations support the development of a new renewable energy based power generation facility.
The consortium aims to purchase 120GWh of electricity – enough to power more than 31,000 households and avoid 151,200 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
The creation of a global solar partnership comprising more than 120 countries, including Australia, was announced today at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference (COP21).

Solar panels will be installed on up to 400 Housing Trust homes in Adelaide and the metropolitan area under a new state government initiative.
Installation of solar power systems will occur on 200 new homes under construction in the suburbs and another 200 in the CBD.
The pilot is a Renewal SA project and if successful, the program may be expanded. Funds for the pilot will be sourced from the $65 million public housing package announced in the State Budget.
