Community group Solar Citizens says the solar energy race between the major NSW parties is now in full swing, with the NSW Government today announcing their plan to change strata laws to make solar more accessible for people living in apartments.

If an election outcome can be predicted by developers’ enthusiasm for new wind, solar and storage projects, then it looks as though Canberra is about to set a course for clean energy. For the first time, it is batteries leading the charge.

In order to stay reliable, the national grid needs large energy storage systems that use ‘consistent’ sources of energy. Both wind turbines and solar power are great for consumers, and the environment. But because of their intermittent nature, they need to be backed up by battery storage.

Substantive clean energy announcements from both the NSW Government and the Opposition show that both major parties have recognised the importance of the issue to voters ahead of the state election next month, the industry’s peak body said today.
