An Australian environmental group is calling on state and federal governments to support solar panel recycling as older panels reach the end of their life cycle. In 2018 Australia’s environment ministers agreed to fast-track new recycling schemes to manage solar panels across their entire life cycle, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Commercial solar battery cost fell significantly in 2018 and are set for further falls in 2019, according to S&P Global. The financial analyst giant reported a drop of 40 per cent in the cost of installed battery storage between 2017 and 2018.
Despite some positive climate action, new fossil fuel infrastructure is still being built and deployed. Dozens of new coal power plants are currently planned or under construction, for instance, while petrol car sales will nearly hit 100m in 2019.
