The Victorian state government will provide half price solar batteries for 10,000 households if re-elected in November. The $40 million energy storage plan is part of the Andrews Government’s Solar Homes initiative. The subsidised solar program has received more than 9,000 applications since it opened on August 19.
Six new wind and solar farms planned for regional Victoria are expected to lower Victorian energy prices. Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Energy Lily D’Ambrosio today visited the Ararat Wind Farm to announce the six successful projects that will produce enough electricity to power 646,273 households.
Home battery subsidies of up to $6,000 will help South Australians install solar energy storage. The Marshall Liberal Government officially announced the $100 million Home Battery Scheme on the weekend. The scheme is due to start in October this year.
Origin Energy has announced plans to build a 5 MW virtual power plant (VPP) connecting 650 Victorian residents with solar PV and home battery systems. Victoria’s Labor Government provided $4.5 million to support the project and the grant forms part of Labor’s $10 million Microgrid Demonstration Initiative. The plan is to build a further eight microgrids state-wide totalling $37 million in value.
