The data used in each of the tables is from the SolarQuotes solar price index tool, the tool displays monthly historical solar prices that have been reported by people submitting solar reviews on the site.
There is always a pretty significant variation in solar panel installation costs depending on location, the logistics of the individual installation, system configuration and the types and brands of PV system components used in the installation. Another way to look at it is to split the cost into two components: 1. the cost of the system and 2. the cost of the installation.
A minimal cost solar installation:
- Close distance from the solar installers home base minimizing travel costs.
- A single-story building with easy access for vehicles and machinery.
- A low pitch tin roof with no trees or shading issues.
- The cheapest PV system components supplied and installed.

At the opposite end of the scale a more costly installation would be:
- A long distance from the installers home base.
- A double story building or higher with a high pitched tile roof.
- Heaps of shade from trees will need to be removed.

- The highest quality PV system components were supplied and installed.
An installation like the above will most certainly add extra costs to the job as additional equipment may be needed like a crane or scissor lift plus extra safety equipment.
