The solar capital of Queensland is now the town of Bundaberg with more solar power systems installed than any other town in the sunshine state.

According to a solar power system survey in Queensland Bundaberg has now become the sunshine states leader with more solar systems installed and operating than all other towns in QLD.

The study by the Clean Energy Regulator shows that around 10,000 homes within the postcode of 4670 have systems in operation generating a combines electrical output of close to 29 megawatts, with all that sunshine up there in QLD why would anyone keep paying for over priced dirty coal power?.

Weather statistics from the Bureau of Meteorology for the Bundaberg area show that on average there are well over 335 days a year that are capable of generating enough sunlight to power solar panels.

One other reason for the sudden increase in installations back in 1012 could be due to the Newman governments cancellation of the Solar Bonus Scheme's 44c per kWh feed in tariff rate and home and business owners wanting to lock in this rate before it was shut down. The current feed in tariff rate is set at 6.5c.

It is estimated the the total combined power savings for Queenslanders with solar power systems installed is around $215 million with 25% of building in the state having installed a system.

All these statistics leave one curious question, why is the Liberal government so against the renewable and solar power industry?, there is massive potential for employment in this industry sector. Perhaps one need only look at the list of political donors to find the answer...
