Unitywater the company that supplies water and sewerage services to the Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and Noosa area has this week switched on its new $150,000 95kW solar power system to supply its Maroochydore service centre with low cost clean electricity.

The system is powered by 350 solar panels and is said to be one of the largest roof mounted solar installations on the Sunshine Coast.

The system was built and installed by Air-Rite Solar based in Nambour and took close to six weeks and 500 man hours to complete.

Unitywater has taken on a policy of reducing its carbon output and greenhouse gas emissions as well as reducing electricity and operating costs, this system will prevent 110 tonnes of carbon from being released into the Earths atmosphere each year.

The 95kW system will deliver roughly 75% of the companies yearly power requirements for its Maroochydore service centre generating an annual saving of $40,000, the system should pay for itself in just under 4 years.
